Every version of Linux has it’s own packages, some of which are specific to that version of Linux. It is possible to take the source code from one version and compile it for another (if you have the time, patience and programming skills) but many are in the repositories of your particular OS.
I am going to go through my recommendations for installing Ham Radio packages in an order that I believe is appropriate for someone who is just getting into the hobby.
